Bridgeport Reservoir, also known as Bridgeport Lake, is a lake at the lower end of Bridgeport Valley in Mono County, California. Its earth-filled dam was constructed in 1923 by the Walker River Irrigation District, along the East Walker River. The lake has a storage capacity of 42,455 acre feet, and is regulated by a Federal Watermaster supplying primarily agricultural irrigation and flood control for Lyon County, Nevada.
Recreational opportunities include boating and trout fishing, and resorts with boat launch facilities are located along the lake's east shore. Access is provided by California State Route 182.
In the Bridgeport region, the East Walker River slowed over the past 10 days as water temperatures ramped up and flows have bounced around between 200 and 250 cfs. Still pretty fair action, but the lover river and Nevada stretched have been better than the Miracle Mile stretch. Still trout to 25 inches being caught on nymphs and streamers, but little dry fly action and what there has been has been very inconsistent.
Bridgeport Reservoir remains very good for trollers in Buckeye Bay, but the bait and fly action has picked up this week in the creek inlets.
Both Twin Lakes, upper and lower, were slow to fair with winds, but still some flurries of decent action, and some fish to six pounds. In the Virginia Lakes drainage, overall just fair fishing, but both
Virginias have been kicking out some big trout from three to five pounds. Alex Varelas,
Huntington Beach, had three nice fish on PowerBait from Lower Virginia, including an 8-3, a 5-2, and a 4-4.
TROUT: Top bets in the Sierra remain Bridgeport Reservoir, Silver and Gull lakes in the June Loop, Convict and Crowley near Mammoth, and Lake Sabrina and Intake II on Bishop Creek in the Bishop area. In Southern California, the top pick is Big Bear Lake for trollers and shore anglers, although Green Valley Lake has also been pretty good. The trout action in the Colorado River near Bullhead City remains good with weekly plants.
