PRIME FEEDING TIMES
From the heart of the Northern Neck peninsula flows a hidden passageway to the Chesapeake Bay. Cat Point Creek is 19.32 miles long and 109 total stream miles in the Cat Point watershed, of which 1.43 square miles are tidal. The drainage area is approximately 74.6 square miles. In the early 1980’s, the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries constructed a dam at Chandler’s Mill Pond, near Montross. It makes its way to the Rappahannock River winding through Westmoreland and Richmond County from 170 feet of elevation down to 6 feet above sea level.
The major tributaries to Cat Point Creek are The Big Swamp, the Black Swamp and the Nanny Sanford Swamp, which enter the creek from the north.
