Scenic and close to camping, Garrison Lake is a shallow coastal lake offering stocked rainbow, wild cutthroat, bass, and yellow perch. At one time there was a good population of bass, but due to overfishing and reduced stocking, they are of no consequence to the angler. Evidence of an ocean breach in 1999 may have had some effect on fish populations. Garrison is best fished from a boat and there are two good ramps at the south and north ends. Weeds can be a problem especially in the summer. A boat will help you gain access to the deeper water and fish the edges of the weed beds. Spin fishing, flies, and your bait of choice all work in the lake. It was named for John B. Garrison, a pioneer settler who was with Captain William Tichenor when he founded the town of Port Orford in 1851.
