The Castaic Cowboy originates from the big lakes of Texas and is roundin’ up big bass all over the world! These baits are designed for running through shallow cover, ripping through grass, bouncing off rocks or just burning in open water. Built with an incredibly durable lip, the Castaic Cowboy tempts fish in the middle water column with jaw-dropping deflections and an erratic wiggle. It features a fast wobbling action with great sound for generating big reaction strikes. The Cowboy dives 3-5’, weighs 3/8oz., and is 2.75” long.
When fishing a crankbait designed for the middle of the water column, make sure that you know the depth you’re fishing and the way the bottom is contoured to the best of your ability. This is easiest with electronics of course, but you can also cast your bait from shallow to deep and run it uphill to make sure you’re making that bottom contact. This allows your bait to really bury into the bottom and create a ton of disturbance and deflection which will trigger strikes.
“Line size is really important to make sure you’re maximizing your crankbaits potential. If you’re in a little heavier cover you might up the line size a little heavier, but you won’t get your crankbait to run as deep. If you lower your line size to something lighter, you’ll get your bait deeper with more risk of breaking off.”
