Product review – Biwaa deus
By Kyle Bumgardner
In a bass fishing market that’s overrun with swimbaits, I found that opening up and testing out the Biwaa Deus was a refreshing experience for me, because I found these to be some quality baits. Biwaa did a fantastic job designing the Deus swimbait, and the attention that was payed to the little details in these is clearly evident. Fishing it, I was able to get a good feel for what the bait is capable of, and here’s a rundown of what I found.
Does It All
Coming in at four inches, this bait is a true do-it-all bait, meaning you can use it for many purposes. You can rig it on a small jighead, put it on the back of a swimjig, chatterbait, buzzbait, or spinnerbait, stick it on the dropshot rig, or even on a shakeyhead. I would describe this as more of a finesse bait, so there’s many things that it can do.
Rigs Right
Everybody hates when swimbaits don’t seem to rig correctly, so I’m pleased to report that when the time comes to use it, you’ll find the Deus very easy to rig. It has two hook slots, one on the bottom and one on the top, ensuring that you’ll hook it straight every time.
Remains durable
The Deus is also durable, which is important. One of the problems I have with throwing swimbait that have hook slots is that the bait is flimsy in general, over-soft, and seems to almost come apart on the cast, so I really appreciated the fact that the Deus stayed together fairly.
I liked this bait a lot. It’s perfect for times when the bass don’t want a huge, wildly kicking swimbait, but would prefer something more subtle. It also comes in about 8 proven colors that cover every situation you’ll run into. If I had one thing I could change about it, I’d like the baits to come in clamshell packaging, but that said, I didn’t notice any major bends or warps in the tails due to the packaging. On the whole, this is a great bait and gets my approval.
